Title

William Caslon English Roman (1785)

Description

An English-bodied roman font from William Caslon II's 1785 A Specimen of Printing Types. Originally an engraver of ornaments for London gunmakers, William Caslon is credited with creating a native English typefounding tradition when England previously had been reliant on inferior home-produced types and imported sets of matrices from the Netherlands. The 1785 type specimen was published under his grandson, William Caslon (III).
