Description

As defined by the Getty Art and Architecture Thesaurus under roman (typeface style group): "Large group of typefaces based generally on 15th-century Italian letterforms, that is, using the Latin alphabet and neither black letter nor distinctly script forms. A roman typeface, in this sense, may include an accompanying italic face. For roman as the opposite of italic, use 'roman (upright typeface group).'"
